WELCOME MESSAGE
On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of the Department of Civil Engineering at AUD I welcome you to our website. Our program and location in one of the world’s fastest growing cities provide excellent opportunities for learning and career development. Our faculty and students represent the diversity of Dubai’s population. Our curriculum is designed to provide a balance between fundamental science, Engineering science, humanities, and social sciences. While our curriculum in the second and third years of study achieves a balance among the various disciplines of civil Engineering , our students also have the chance in their fourth year to focus on the concentration of their choice. Through the 15 credit hours of civil Engineering electives, students can choose courses that range from structural analysis and design, geotechnical Engineering , water resources, environmental Engineering , and transportation Engineering . Since the introduction of the mandatory Field Experience in Civil Engineering course, our students have had a unique opportunity to work in some landmark projects in Dubai, the UAE, and worldwide under the supervision of highly qualified engineers during the summer of their third year.

The civil Engineering program at AUD is accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and also by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET which is intended to certify the quality of Engineering and technology programs. Our faculty members are highly qualified and motivated. Through funding acquired by faculty members’ efforts, the Water and Environmental Technology (WET) laboratory was recently upgraded with state of the art equipment. The low faculty/student ratio provides our students with an exceptional opportunity to interact with the faculty and to get high quality education. These are some of the reasons why our graduates continue to receive both job and postgraduate studies offers from reputable employers and universities around the world.

As we continue to grow, our first graduate program was launched in Fall of 2012. The Master of Science in Construction Management (M.S.C.M.) program was designed to provide newly graduating engineers and architects as well as construction professionals with an opportunity to further enrich their knowledge in the field of construction Engineering and management. The curriculum is well-balanced and provides students with the flexibility to choose courses on both sides of theory and practice. Through its evening classes, the program attracts a diverse population of students with various backgrounds and experiences. The M.S.C.M. program has been accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. I encourage you to browse our website to learn more about the M.S.C.M. program.

We are committed to continue to provide high quality education through the recruitment of high caliber students and faculty members, and the attainment of the state-of-the-art experimental and computing laboratories. We are constantly striving to improve our program and to grow in order to stay in pace with the challenges of the 21st century. So if you are a prospective Engineering student and you are considering civil Engineering for your career, I strongly encourage you to consider civil Engineering at AUD as your first step to joining the profession which is committed to building the quality of our life.

I invite you to browse through our website to find out more about the department of civil Engineering at AUD and what it has to offer you. If you need further information, please feel free to contact me by e-mail or phone, or stop by my office for a friendly chat.
