The fluid mechanics lab is equipped to perform and demonstrate a number of experiments that provide undergraduate students with the practical applications of fluid mechanics. The lab includes Hydrostatic Pressure Apparatus to measure hydrostatic forces on submerged bodies. In addition, the Orifice and Jet Apparatus allows students to compare between actual and jet trajectories and to calculate the coefficient of discharge for various orifices. Moreover, students get their hands on the different methods of flow measurement. The Fluid Friction, Bends and Fitting apparatus allows students to determine major and minor losses in pipes. The Pipe Network Apparatusincludes the facilities to measure flow and pressure drops in a wide range of network configuration, e.g. individual pipes, series pipes and parallel pipes. The lab is also equipped with a Flow Visualization Channel for conducting several applications in open channels such as hydraulic jump, discharge under sluice gate and energy equation. Furthermore, the Osborne Reynold’s Apparatus facilitates the demonstration of laminar and turbulent flow.
