Taming the Teenage Mind
5th annual guidance counselors workshop

The Admission Office at AUD hosted its fifth annual guidance counselors workshop titled “Taming the Teenage Mind”. Facilitated by Vandana Mahajan, Director of Futures Abroad, the workshop focused on counseling techniques for students, and tips on how to help them navigate a route to career success. Around 60 counselors from high schools around the UAE and the region joined the workshop.
Perhaps no other part of the education process is as misunderstood as the college selection process. Misconceptions about cost, access, preparation, kinds of college, and the application and selection processes leave many convinced that only a handful of “right” colleges exist, and those are available only to a handful of lucky students.
“The purpose of this workshop was to show counselors how to dispel those myths by creating student-centered approaches to the college selection process based on the needs, interests and resources available to your school community,” explains Admissions Director Carol Maalouf.
This workshop was designed to meet the needs of students who are hoping to apply to leading universities, providing detailed advice and feedback on university applications.
The workshop also provided with an introduction to the theory and skills needed to work with students and families in the college selection process.
Attendees were also able to hear from President Dr. Lance de Masi on the importance of accreditation.
