Dr. James Lockhart speaks at Annual Baltic Military History Conference
Dr. James Lockhart, Assistant Professor of History at AUD presented research from his forthcoming book on the Cold War at the Baltic Defense College, an institution serving Estonia, Latvia, and Lituiania’s national-security and defense community, which remains part of the NATO alliance, last week during the 8th Annual Baltic Military History Conference: From Narva to Nato: 100 Years of Russia Versus the West, 1917-2017
He joined colleagues from universities in the United States and across Europe, officials from the Baltic republics, the US Department of State, and military and naval officers from the United States, Britain, and Germany to discuss Russia and world affairs from the Bolshevik Revolution -- which marks its hundredth anniversary this year – to the government of Vladimir Putin.
Papers assessed Russian strategic capabilities, intentions, and methods, and they examined some of the international community’s responses to Moscow, from the Baltics and Europe to Latin America and the Middle East, as well.
Participants included Baltic-republic, Russian, and Ukrainian undergraduate and graduate students, and frank exchanges of views occurred.
