It discusses US-Russian relations in the Middle East today, and it asks whether China matters as well. It concludes that a renewed Cold War-like superpower rivalry in the region remains unlikely.
Several reasons account for this, but the most important one remains that Middle Eastern nations have changed a great deal since the end of the Cold War. They are no longer anyone else’s pawns in regional and in indeed global affairs.
