The "AUD-UNHCR-LSE Training Workshop on Displacement and Refugees" took place on February 12, 2018 at the American University in Dubai. The workshop was hosted by the Department of International and Middle Eastern Studies in the School of Arts and Sciences, and led by Ameera Azzam from UNHCR and Zeynep N. Kaya from the London School of Economics. The training provided specialized intensive training to 20 AUD students in some of the most important areas of action within the UNHCR mandate including International Protection, Mixed Migration, Human Trafficking, Gendered Vulnerabilities and Durable Solutions for refugees. The workshop also included simulation activities through which students got to experience two different situations of mass influx and displacement crisis and to think creatively about emergency responses to displacement. Student trainees from the Department of International and Middle Eastern Studies, the Department of Journalism and the Department of Interior Design were given Certificates of Completion at the end of the day.
