AUD appointed UNAI’s SDG 17 Hub: Partnerships for the Goals
As part of our timeless effort to build the education ecosystem in the Middle East, the American University in Dubai is appointed as the SDG 17 Hub: Partnerships for the Goals for the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI).

As the only SDG Hub in the Middle East, AUD is tasked with bridging partnerships, united by a shared vision, across sectors to advance the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The SDG’s include: No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Clean Water and Sanitation, Affordable and Clean Energy, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, Reduced Inequalities, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, Life Below, Life on Land, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and Partnerships for the Goals.

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) is an initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations in supporting and contributing to the realization of United Nations goals and mandates, including the promotion and protection of human rights, access to education, sustainability and conflict resolution.

The American University in Dubai has a history of strategic partnerships aimed at social causes. Below are two notable examples in the last two years that outline the initiative of AUD:

United Nations High Commissions for Refugees (UNHCR): Planned and collaborated on a high level conference entitled “Youth Engagement & Refugee Crisis” which was a regional conference aimed at raising awareness about the plight of the refugees. Awareness was complemented with finding reasonable and actionable means of engagement. The conference included notable dignitaries such as Christos Stylianides, H.E. Elias Bou Saab, and H.E. Tariq Al Gurg. The conference also hosted journalists, CSR leaders, and a youth panel, that shared stories on their action plan and impact on the refugee crisis. The outcome was the “Youth Engagement Chapter” which empowers the youth to create a humanitarian and social impact.

United Nations Global Compact (UNGC): AUD is a signatory of the Global Compact where we aim to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We created the 1st UNGC student chapter where students plan community schemes to ensure their community meets the SDGs. Lastly, students collaborate with companies to support the implementation of the SDGs.
