Before joining AUD in 2015, Dr. Schell taught internationally at universities in the US, Canada and the UK.  Her teaching interests include history of the book, medieval art and architecture, and the ancient Mediterranean.

Dr. Schell’s research concerns the relationship between text and image in 15th-century Europe, and emphasizes the active nature of material culture in shaping communities and beliefs. This work investigates the interplay between visual, aural and textual forms as they construct and respond to the environment and social expectations. She has a particular interest in medieval beliefs and theology concerned with eschatology and the end of life.
