Dr. Elias Saqan is Professor of Civil Engineering and Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering at the American University in Dubai (AUD). His expertise is in structural engineering with emphasis on analysis and design of reinforced and precast/prestressed concrete structures, and earthquake engineering. He started his academic career in September 1996 as Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Birzeit University in the West Bank, where he taught for nine years a wide range of structural analysis and design courses. During the same period, Dr. Saqan also worked for consulting companies and was active in the Association of Engineers providing continuing education courses. In 2005, he was the recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship where he spent one academic year as a research scholar at the School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA. In September 2006, he joined the Department of Civil Engineering at AUD where he continues to teach a wide range of structural engineering courses and conducts research in addition to his administrative duties.

Dr. Saqan is a member of numerous professional associations and technical committees, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Concrete Institute, the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute, the American Institute of Steel Construction, and the American Society for Engineering Education. Dr. Saqan was also the recipient of AUD's Provost Award for Outstanding Research for the academic year 2008-2009, and AUD's President Award for Distinguished Service for the academic year 2010-2011.
