AUD students, Yassmeene Saleh, Aya Abou Zaki, and Mohammed Boukort, alongside their advisor Dr. Vinod Pangracious, Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, are set to showcase Ecosorb at COP 28 after securing a spot in the final stage of the EXPO Innovation Live program. Ecosorb is a Sustainable methodology to biodegrade the oil spilled into the environment. In this project, the AUD team is experimenting and testing how a community of microorganisms mixed with jute fibres break down the different compounds that make up oil spilled in the ocean to biodegrade, thereby protecting nature and marine organisms.
Proudly representing the American University in Dubai, the team’s sustainable vision is making waves on the path to a greener future.
