The School of Arts and Sciences at the American University in Dubai is excited to announce its new affiliation with the Global Council on Anthropological Linguistics (SOAS GLOCAL) at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). This partnership brings the AUD into a global network of scholars and institutions dedicated to advancing research in Linguistic Cultural Anthropology, Sociolinguistics, and Language and Society.
SOAS GLOCAL is renowned for its influential work in these fields, hosting flagship academic journals such as the Journal of Asian Linguistic Anthropology (JALA), Journal of Mediterranean and European Linguistic Anthropology (JOMELA), and Journal of Middle Eastern Linguistic Anthropology (MEALA-J). The council’s expansive global network includes partnerships with prestigious organizations like Taylor and Francis Publishers, Springer Publishers, Multilingual Matters, and the Wenner Gren Foundation, as well as over 3,000 academic institutions worldwide.
Affiliates of SOAS GLOCAL are part of a vibrant academic community and can engage with key initiatives such as the Annual South and Central American Assembly Linguistic Anthropology (SCAALA), the Annual Conference on Asian Linguistic Anthropology (CALA), and the Mediterranean Association of Linguistic Anthropology (MEALA), among others. SOAS GLOCAL is also a member of the World Council for Anthropological Associations (WCAA) and a recipient of major grants from the Wenner-Gren Foundation and the Japan Foundation.
