Community at AUD: Clubs, Music, and Friends

Diversity at AUD is as important as the academics

Sep 20, 2024

Diversity at AUD is as important as the academics, with over 90 nationalities celebrated among both the student body and the faculty.

“Diversity plays a very important role in making AUD what it is today,” says AUD’s Associate Executive Vice President, Ms. Tala Makhlouf. Ms. Makhlouf went on to explain how AUD is a fortunate byproduct of the diversity in Dubai, calling the university a “reflection” of the city. And just as the city itself has various cultural groups and associations, the university has over 20 clubs dedicated to diversity and cultures. Not only does AUD have over 20 cultural student-led clubs, the university also houses over 25 noncultural clubs. The purpose of clubs at AUD, according to Student Affairs Coordinator Lujain Ammar, is to promote a union and community among the students. She goes on to say “that’s the amazing thing about clubs, is that there is no limit to who can be a member of the club…everyone is welcome to join.”

On September 11th, 2024, AUD held a fair to celebrate the plethora of clubs on campus and encourage students, both old and new, to join these clubs. Some of the clubs that joined this event included the Book Club, the African Student Union, the Women’s Club, and many more. The creativity at the club fair was through the roof. The Biology Student Society featured a dart board, the Book Club held a mini-trivia game, the Psychology Club held a raffle, and the Music Club along with the various cultural clubs provided entertainment for the event. Some clubs had floor banners, table displays, games, snacks, freebies, etc. Each club gave a teaser for their semester plans: the Italian Cultural Club is planning a pasta making event to cook fresh pasta from scratch. The Eco Club is planning to invite guest speakers to raise environmental awareness. The Game Hub’s will be inviting students to get together and bond over board games and video games and in collaboration with the AUD Library, the Book Club plans to host weekly readings and discussion meetings for all interested readers.

Stay tuned on the clubs’ Instagram accounts for these events and more!
