The Master of Arts in International Affairs program at AUD held two lectures on 19 October 2023, on the topics of Failed States in the Global South and Migration Diplomacy by Dr. Anuj Tiwari (Centre for Social Change Kathmandu, Nepal) and Mr. Frolian Malit Jr. (PhD candidate, University of Glasgow).

The first lecture centered around understanding the failure of sending states (Nepal) to govern their migrant populations and offered an empirical analysis of how and why sending states fail to control their bilateral and multilateral migration process, while the second highlighted states' use of migration diplomacy in interstate bargaining processes, the literature has yet to examine the inter-sending states' strategic use of cooperative migration diplomacy in the Global South.
