The School of Education recently hosted a two-day training workshop for M.Ed. students, alumni and teachers in Dubai on how to support and integrate People of Determination in classrooms and in all sectors of life. Ms. Fatma Al Jassim, who is ADA certified and who served as a UAE delegate to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD), led each training session with extraordinary grace, intelligence and humor.
On the first day, Fatma guided teachers in identifying social barriers to inclusion and helped them to brainstorm accessibility issues. On the second day of the workshop, they learned how to advocate for People of Determination and, finally, how to design an authentically inclusive school policy that addresses the needs of all stakeholders.
