The third edition of the iGuzzini Student Design Challenge, themed "Light for Future", culminated in a showcase of innovation and talent at the American University in Dubai (AUD). The challenge, which focused on the theme of CULTURE: “The Story,” saw students from the Interior Design Department create captivating designs and graphics, with the winning entry set to be constructed for Palco InOut Framer for Gobos projector by iGuzzini. The winning design will be officially unveiled to the public at Dubai Design Week 2024_Downtown Design.
The challenge not only provided a platform for students to showcase their creativity but also offered valuable learning opportunities through a dedicated Lighting Workshop conducted by the iGuzzini team. Led by Saba Napoletano, iGuzzini’s Marketing Manager, the workshop featured insights from industry experts including Andrea Miglioranzi, iGuzzini Technician, Nathalie Roumanos, iGuzzini Brand Specialist, and Mayar Younes, an AUD alumna and iGuzzini Intern.
Under the mentorship of Prof. Lambri, Chair of the Department of Interior Design, and Prof. Poupak Parvaresh, Assistant Professor of Interior Design, students in the IDES 392 Studio VI-Smart Design classes developed their projects, delving into the intricacies of Lighting Design and honing their technical skills.
Prof. Lambri commented on the success of the challenge, noting the elevated levels of design and creativity achieved in its third edition. She emphasized the importance of such collaborations with industry partners like iGuzzini, which enrich the educational experience for AUD students and strengthen the bond between academia and the professional sphere.
An esteemed international jury, comprising Sergio Padula, iGuzzini Technical Director Middle East & English-Speaking Africa, Paula Cortes, Head of Lighting Design at WSP-Middle East, and Vikita Shahani, Director of Strategy and Innovation at Love That Design, meticulously evaluated the submissions and selected the winners.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with AUD, Saba Napoletano highlighted the exceptional quality and enthusiasm demonstrated by the participants. She underscored the significance of initiatives like Light for Future in nurturing the talents of future designers and fostering a culture of innovation and sustainability.
