AUD held its biannual Blood Donation Campaign for children suffering from Thalassemia under the theme: “The easiest way to express love is to donate it straight from the heart.” The campaign, took place on campus in association with the Blood Bank Department at Latifa Hospital in Dubai. “Donating your own blood is one of the most benevolent deeds one can ever do to extend their support to those in need” says Mrs. Nelly Halabi, Health Center Director at AUD. “It is also mutually beneficial for the donor and the recipient given its positive impact on decreasing blood pressure and minimizing the risk of heart attacks.”

During the event, a great number of AUD students, faculty and staff members rushed to donate their blood to children suffering from Thalassemia at Latifa Hospital. “The AUD community is always eager to bring hope to thalassemia children across the UAE and their families. The campaign has become a well-founded tradition that is deeply-rooted in the university’s ongoing humanitarian activities” adds Mrs. Halaby.

Throughout the procedure, specialists from Latifa Hospital assisted the AUD Health Center nurses in performing hemoglobin blood tests and medical checkups for each donor to ensure that they are eligible to undergo the blood donation procedure.
