As an academic with over 15 years of teaching and research experience, Dr. Farid Guliyev is an Assistant Professor of Political Science in the Department of International and Middle Eastern Studies at the American University in Dubai. Besides his academic experience, he has held multiple consultancy positions for international development organizations and worked as a trainer for the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) on a number of regional capacity-building projects.
Before joining AUD, Dr. Guliyev was a Senior Lecturer at Khazar University in Baku where he was previously Head of the Department of Political Science. Earlier he had worked as an Assistant Professor at ADA University’s School of Public & International Affairs. He has held visiting and postdoc fellowships at the Institute of Political Science at Justus-Liebig University Giessen in Germany and as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at George Washington University’s Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (IERES) in Washington, DC.
As a scholar and policy analyst, Dr. Guliyev has published on a wide range of topics including comparative democratization in the post-communist world, governance of oil and gas resources in the Caspian Region, and the role of international organizations in managing and mediating conflicts across Eastern Europe and Eurasia.
His current research interests include regional integration initiatives and sustainable energy transitions in central Eurasia. At AUD, he teaches on topics in environmental governance and sustainability, modern warfare, and social science research methods.
