Dr. Kamand Kojouri is an Assistant Professor of English in the School of Arts and Sciences, where she teaches courses in composition and research, literature, and creative writing. An author, poet, and Fellow of the Emirates Literature Foundation, Dr. Kojouri completed her M.A. in Creative Writing at City St. George’s, University of London, where her historical novel was shortlisted for the Peters Fraser + Dunlop Award.
She received the Provost’s Award for Outstanding Literary Achievement in 2026, in recognition of her contributions to literature and the impact of her creative work on intercultural understanding and community engagement.
Dr. Kojouri’s writing spans multiple genres and has appeared in international publications and media, including the BBC, El País, and The Irish Times. All royalties from her poetry collections are donated to nonprofit organizations supporting children living in poverty or hardship. She also funds the planting of a tree in sub-Saharan Africa for every book sold, with more than 4,000 trees planted to date.
In 2024, her short story “Felix” was shortlisted for the Rhys Davies National Short Story Prize and published in the Rhys Davies Short Story Award Anthology 2024 by Parthian Books. She was subsequently commissioned by BBC Radio 4 to write a short story. The resulting work, “The Market Photographer,” was broadcast in August 2025.
At AUD, Dr. Kojouri’s teaching and research explore the intersections of literature, identity, and culture, with an emphasis on how storytelling can foster empathy and critical thinking while amplifying marginalized perspectives. Her research interests include transcultural identities, intersectional feminism, short fiction, poetry, coming-of-age novels, and philosophical fiction.
She co-founded the AUD Spoken Word Series, an initiative that provides a platform for diverse voices and cultivates a vibrant culture of storytelling, dialogue, and shared humanity. She also serves on the AUD Library Committee and the AUD Writing Contest Committee.
Beyond her academic and literary work, Dr. Kojouri collaborates with international artists, musicians, and charities. She is passionate about classical music, jazz, and swimming.
