Dr. Hashmi is an Assistant Professor of Oral Rhetoric at the American University in Dubai. She has taught at several universities in the Middle East over the past ten years. Dr. Hashmi studies social judgments and is particularly interested in examining rapid impressions of speakers and leaders. Her research focuses on collectivist cultures and their reliance on non-verbal cues when making evaluative judgments of others in the blink of a second. She has published papers in several peer reviewed journals, the most recent ones being the Journal of Intercultural Communication and The Qualitative Report.
In recognition of her work, Dr. Hashmi was honored in 2023 with the Provost’s Award for Innovation in Teaching.
In her spare time, she likes to travel, read and talk politics.
