Dr. Mida Zantout joined the American University of Dubai in January 2024 as an Assistant Professor of Middle Eastern Studies. She earned her doctorate in 2011 from McGill University’s Department of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, where her research focused on women’s and children’s rights, with particular attention to laws surrounding marriage, divorce, custody, lineage, paternity, and citizenship.
Dr. Zantout has taught courses on Women in the Arab World, Women under Islamic Law, Sociology, Religion and Society, and Arabic Language at McGill University, the University of Balamand in Lebanon, and the Lebanese American University (LAU). Her teaching and research are deeply rooted in the study of human rights and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Alongside her academic career, Dr. Zantout has gained significant experience in both the private sector and public service. She has worked with international organizations, non-profit organizations, and government institutions across various sectors, including fashion, diplomacy, and social justice advocacy.
Having lived and worked across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and Latin America, Dr. Zantout brings a global perspective to her work, shaped by her diverse professional and cultural experiences. She believes in the transformative power of education and strives to empower new generations through critical thinking, inclusive dialogue, and interdisciplinary learning.
Dr. Zantout is fluent in French, English, Arabic, Spanish, and Italian. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and combining her love for languages with her passion for baking, creating confections inspired by her international experiences.
