On January 14th, 2019 the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter from AUD’s School of Engineering, in collaboration with the Road and Transport Authority (RTA), organized a seminar on the Dubai Metro. The event was attended by students, faculty and representatives from transportation related companies.

Mr. Khalid Saad Zaher, Planning Manager at the RTA, discussed the new Dubai Metro line for the Dubai Expo 2020. He started off by discussing the main features of the metro lines in Dubai and the inspiration for the design of the stations. He then explained the integration of the existing and under-construction metro lines with other transport modes, and the operation and maintenance facilities of the Dubai Metro lines. At the end, he discussed the socio-economic impacts of the Dubai Metro and also summarized some of the future transport projects that are either under-study or in early phases of construction.

The ASCE student chapter is thankful that the RTA for took the time to visit the campus and provide an engaging, informative and thought-provoking discussion for the students and faculty. It was a great learning experience for the students and hopefully more seminars by the RTA will be organized in future.
